If you've come this far, it's probably because you've seen your friends fighting with their golf clubs after having done a fitting to adjust them. Not all fittings are the same or follow the same process. We're going to review the common mistakes when doing a golf fitting and what to do to avoid them.
At Handmade Custom Clubs we have been creating custom golf clubs for years through a unique fitting experience.

What is golf fitting and why is it essential?
Golf fitting is the process of studying a player's physical condition and style in order to tailor their clubs to their needs. It's not just about taking measurements (or, at least at HCC, our fittings aren't just about that). A good fitting is a complete analysis of all aspects of the swing and the club, so that you have equipment that feels like it was made exclusively for your hands and your swing.
As a golfer progresses, it is advisable to have their clubs fitted to fit them. If your clubs are made to measure, you will experience a noticeable change in the confidence of each shot.
Common mistakes when doing a golf fitting
As we have already mentioned, not all fittings are the same or of the same quality. In the fitting process, it is very easy to make mistakes that can harm your performance. Let's analyze the most common ones:
Surface measurements
Sometimes only basic measurements are taken into account, such as height, approximate speed or hand size, without relating this data to your posture or your swing execution.
To avoid this, we recommend combining static measurements with a moving analysis.
Not considering actual game conditions
Performing an indoor fitting may reflect correct data, but it cannot be felt or seen like an outdoor fitting, where you can actually see the ball fly, which gives you much more information.
Not taking into account other essential elements
Swingweight or your swing style, for example, are very important when choosing the right clubs for your golf game. Not taking them into account when making a fitting would be a big mistake.
Follow generic recommendations
Just because a model fits “most” doesn’t mean it will fit you and your playstyle. This approach could limit your potential and hurt your performance.
Ideally, you should opt for a completely personalized fitting.
Benefits of a well-done fitting
A well-done fitting:
- Improve the distance and accuracy of your shots.
Typically, after a good fitting, you will notice an increase in the distance of your shots. Optimizing the launch angle plus adjusting the loft and lie will allow you to hit more powerful and more directed shots.
- Injury prevention
A good fitting, by aligning your clubs with your body, will help you maintain a more natural posture.

What is a good fitting?
In the fittings we carry out at HCC, we take into account both static measurements as well as the player's movement. We work with cutting-edge technology such as Trackman, Flightscope and SAM PuttLab, in an outdoor studio where the player can see their progress during their Xperience with Miki Rapado. The benefit of doing an outdoor fitting is that you can visualize the difference in performance much better.
